If GD is developed there are other places in HK that the population will survive GD has small pop because of overharvesting; threats being managed in HK but not GD. Also considered another flagship species in HK. Study of skin toxins ongoing but there are a total of 7 species within Paramesotriton globally; so not dependent upon species.
